It's Official!

We finalized our adoption on Monday, October 18th at 1:30 pm. Wow....it was a surreal feeling standing there! The lawyer asked us lots of questions and they were fine, although he did ask Mark "do you feel you are financially able to provide for these children?"  Ummmm...isn't that what stepping out in faith meant? We are trusting Him! Didn't say that to the lawyer and judge though! Yes, was our answer! And it's true. Because we know God provides for what He calls us to do. I truly feel like all five children are 100% mine and only two biologically are! How cool is that. God adopted us into His family and we've done the same. How great is His love for us! We had a fun open house monday night to celebrate our growing family. It is such a joy to have so many special people in our lives, loving our kids too. Thank you to everyone for coming! We wish our families were able to be there too, but our times happen in different ways don't they!?

My View of Life, before God opened my eyes and after....

I have had thoughts swirling around in my head during the night for a couple weeks now, especially in light of Orphan Sunday coming. I am really afraid that people will just not even think about it.  I don't want that.

I think that if two years ago, someone had told me they wanted to adopt or that there was a huge crisis in the world, in regards to orphans, I would have thought, that's great, I'm so impressed that you're doing that, or wow, that's so awful that so many bad things are happening....but, then life goes on and and I would not have thought that any of that applied to me. God wants us to do something, but not all of us have to....right? Or then come all the excuses....I don't have the money, don't have the time, don't feel "called", too busy, don't have a heart for that, that's for other people. On and on and on. I'm not saying that everyone has to feel the same about the orphan crisis, not everyone has to adopt, but I think that if we all seriously prayed and asked the Lord to show us what God wants us, personally, to do about the HUGE need that exists with orphans, I wonder how much that would change. I have discovered a HUGE world of adoptive families out there that are so amazing, who have answered God's call on their life despite all the naysayers, reasons not to, financial excuses....or just being too busy with life.

If you are reading my blog and if you have never prayed and asked God what He wants you to do, would you do it now?

As I said, Orphan Sunday is coming and it saddens me that people probably think, oh, that doesn't apply to me, I don't have time to go the the concert on friday night that will be simulcast at my church, I don't have the same heart....please reconsider? God may be tugging on your heart and you are missing out.

Life before Peter and Akor

Relatively calm

Financially stable (mostly anyway!) ;)

Independent children

Easy to go somewhere, near or far

Routine

School was very doable

Not really stepping out in faith as a family, pretty comfortable

Not sacrificing in big ways

Life after Peter and Akor

Crazy Busy!

Financially stretching! (especially when I get groceries, not even talking about the initial expense!)

Dependent children! (yes, I'm putting exclamations after everything!!!!) :)

Everywhere we go, I think twice!

Routine? What routine?

Getting school done is pretty difficult!

Life in ministry brings opportunities to sacrifice, but wow, teaching our children and allowing God to teach us what true sacrifice means as we serve Him is life changing.

Life is not comfortable...it has 100% changed! I'm challenged daily!

BUT, I am beyond amazing at how blessed we feel to have these two children in our lives. I don't like hearing how "lucky" these kids are. We are the "lucky" ones. God has a plan and we get to be a part of it! How "lucky" are we? We as a body of Christ are called to meet the need, in many different ways. My eyes have been opened in ways I never dreamed. I was living a pretty naive, comfortable life that wasn't allowing God to show up in big ways.  Our life is SO fun, exciting, and FULL. Of course we have challenges, but we are so glad we listened to God's call on our life! Won't you?
